Seal Out Plaque with Dental Sealants

All teeth can decay, but molars are harder to clean because they’re far back in your mouth. They also have grooves that trap cavity-causing bacteria. While it’s still important to brush and floss well, dental sealants make it much easier. What is this treatment? Who’s it for?

What Are Dental Sealants?

Dental sealants are clear or tooth-colored coatings. They are painted on your teeth, where they harden and protect your molars from bacteria. The treatment is very easy and painless. When sealants protect your teeth, your risk for cavities goes down.

Who Are Sealants For?

We recommend sealants for children as they are more likely to get cavities as they learn to brush and floss properly. Research shows that kids between 6-11 years old who don’t have dental sealants get three times more cavities than kids who do have sealants. If you want to keep your child’s teeth healthy, dental sealants are one of the most effective and affordable ways to do that. If you want to protect your own teeth, sealants work for teens and adults, too!

How Long Do Sealants Last?

Dental sealants wear out over time, but they can last up to 10 years when you care for your teeth. At every dental visit with Dr. Gallagher, we’ll check them to make sure they’re holding up well. If they’re worn down or damaged, we can buff off what’s left and reapply a fresh coating.
