Dr. Gallagher’s Mission Trip to Santo Domingo

Overland Park Family Dental's mission trip to the Dominican Republic.

At Overland Park Family Dental, we believe it’s important to not only give back to our community, but to help communities around the world.

Dr. Gallagher participates in annual mission trips, and he will be visiting the Dominican Republic this July. His week-long trip will be from July 18 thru July 26, as he participates in pop-up medical clinics. By providing free dental care to the people of Santo Domingo, he hopes to better their lives and provide a service to them that they may not otherwise get.

Why the Dominican Republic?

The Dominican Republic is a Caribbean nation, next to Haiti on the island of Hispaniola. Geographically, the country is beautiful with white beaches, rainforests, and savannahs. In spite of it’s beauty, and of recent economic growth in telecommunications, there remains a marked income inequality. Many families struggle daily as the result of government corruption, poor electricity sources, and unemployment. Women and children in rural areas are particularly affected by poverty.

About Santo Domingo

santodomingo1

Santo Domingo is the capital of the Dominican Republic, with a population of over 1 million people. The city is sprawling and beautiful, but there is a stark social division between upper and lower class. While the city’s economics are on the rise, many of the people here are still living in poverty. Over 25% of the population in Santo Domingo lives in poverty.

Whether you’re able to give time, money, or voice to a cause, the Dominican Republic can see positive change. We believe in “A Better Dominican”. Do you?
